Masahiro Tanaka is on the field with his teammates at Yankee Stadium, per the NYY Twitter account.

Yankees fans really couldn’t have asked for a better turn of events following Masahiro Tanaka’s injury scare. On Saturday, the veteran starter was clocked in the head by a line drive off the bat of slugger Giancarlo Stanton and went down in a heap at Yankee Stadium. It didn’t look good.

Tanaka was taken to a hospital in New York City for further evaluation and was released hours after. A couple days later it was revealed he was diagnosed with a mild concussion — which, don’t forget, could still be problematic — after his CT scan came back negative.

Four days later, he’s already back on the field with his teammates. If this tweet doesn’t lift your spirit as a Yankees fan, we don’t know what will.

He’s out there chatting it up and laughing, clearly in good spirits after enduring that traumatic incident that could have very well ended his 2020 campaign before it even began, which would have been devastating for him and the Yankees.

Tanaka would’ve missed out on building his stock heading into free agency and the Bombers would’ve been down another top starter with Luis Severino done after Tommy John surgery.

Nobody knows how long it’ll be before the right-hander can get back on the mound, especially since we understand how unpredictable concussions are, regardless of their severity. As he waits for clearance, it’ll delay his chances of being ready for the start of the season because he’s losing out on precious reps in Spring Training 2.0.

Nonetheless, based on his progress and resilience, things are looking up and there’s little reason to be pessimistic about the near future.

Are we sure The Rock isn’t playing him in real life at the moment? Because before Saturday’s incident, we were positive that was the only guy who could take a 112 MPH line drive off the head and bounce back this quickly.
