Gerrit Cole of the New York Yankees now has a son, Caden Gerrit Cole.

As much as he’d always dreamed of being a member of the New York Yankees, Gerrit Cole’s status for the 2020 season was even more up in the air than his teammates’.

MLB determined that Cole would not have been able to opt out and receive full service time and payment simply for co-habitating with a pregnant spouse, but still — with Amy Cole set to deliver a baby this summer, Cole had some very serious personal decision-making to do.

In recent days, however, Cole’s given every indication that he’s full steam ahead, even dominating in a 45-50 pitch appearance on the Yankee Stadium mound on Thursday.

Perhaps we now know why — Cole just announced that the baby was born earlier Friday morning, and is safe and sound.

Huge exhale on everyone’s part.

Though the timing could not have worked out more perfectly for the season’s resumption, we still do not begrudge Cole at all if he feels somewhat skittish and plans to take extra precautions moving forward.

After all, the baby is what’s most important.

In terms of his own availability and readiness, especially after Friday morning’s news, Cole believes he’ll only need a few more tuneups to throw a fairly standard stint on Opening Day in Washington.

While we’re sure there’s plenty of familial justification for the young Cole’s new name, there’s also an ironic wrinkle wrapped in there for the Yankees’ new bulldog.

If New York can get two different iterations of CG Cole by the end of the season, once their ace’s arm is built, up, they’ll be more than satisfied with that.

Gerrit and Amy Cole are set up for a landmark 2020 even more than they already were when they arrived in New York at the end of December. Hopefully, the First Family of the Yankees Rotation can relax for the rest of this holiday weekend.
