Gerrit Cole shared a video on his Instagram account of himself driving to Yankee Stadium and then pitching in the bullpen.
Gerrit Cole, who signed with the Bombers this offseason and spurned the Houston Astros for a nine-year, $324 million deal, uploaded a video of himself driving to Yankees Stadium and then pitching in the bullpen for everyone to see.
Fans already got a glimpse of the right-hander mowing down hitters in Tampa during Spring Training, but this is the true moment everyone’s been waiting for. The All-Star has stepped foot on the home turf and is throwing HEAT with “Empire State of Mind” by Jay-Z and Alicia Keys in the background.
And that caption! Someone give us a glass of water!!
There might not be a better way to introduce yourself (again) to Yankee fans, to be completely honest. With how brutal this offseason has been thanks to the game of chicken between the MLB and MLBPA, everyone’s needed something resembling positivity and hope.
While this doesn’t settle the overarching issue surrounding baseball, it does give Yankee fans a reason to stay excited about what’s to come in 2020 and beyond. As long as Cole is staying fresh during this hiatus, he should have no problem dominating the American League once again.
The Yankees are Cole’s childhood team and everyone’s been steeped with anticipation for him to set foot in the Stadium and bring everything full circle. While we haven’t been able to get that in the form of an Opening Day/debut start, we at least received a nice little pick-me-up in the midst of the bleak 2020 season outlook.
Perhaps the owners will get a clue after seeing the Bronx explode with joy after Cole put this on social media. Just imagine how every other baseball fan will react if they can get a taste of the sport and some hope that this year won’t be a sham?
