According to Buster Olney of ESPN Domingo German won’t pitch again for the Yankees in the 2019 season. The news comes just a day after the team announced he was placed on administrative leave under the joint MLB-MLBPA domestic violence policy.

This was without a doubt the right decision by Major League Baseball because there’s absolutely no place for domestic violence under any circumstance. The Yankees will now have to move on without German as they get set for the postseason to begin in two weeks.

Given the seriousness of this issue, it’s no surprise German won’t pitch again this season and quite frankly he doesn’t deserve to at all if the allegations are true. When the news broke on Wednesday the MLB players union agreed with the decision to place him on leave which tells you all you need to know about the situation with German and the mother of his children.

Once manager Aaron Boone found out about the news on Thursday he said he already started preparing as if he wasn’t going to be a part of the team. Now that it’s a reality the Yankees will have to make some decisions on who will take his spot on the postseason roster. The 27-year-old right-hander was expected to play a big role for the Yankees this postseason after he had a breakout campaign going 18-4 with a 4.03 ERA. He was likely going to pitch out of the bullpen in October but he was certainly going to pitch a lot.

Now that German is done for the season, the Yankees really need Luis Severino to regain his All-Star form as he continues to stretch himself out before the ALDS. They’ll also need James Paxton to pitch like an ace and Masahiro Tanaka to step up in October like he always has.

As for the roster, I think this increases the odds we’ll see someone like Luis Cessa or Jonathan Loaisiga earn a spot and further guarantees that the veteran CC Sabathia will be on it as well.

Losing German this close to the playoffs is a big blow but this is much bigger than baseball and he brought this on himself with his actions. He was the Yankees most reliable starting pitcher throughout the season and his future with the club looked very bright but now there’s really no telling what the future holds for him.

Next. Will CC Sabathia make the Yankees postseason roster?. dark

I’m sure we’ll find out more details in the coming days and weeks but it’s hard to imagine any scenario where German doesn’t serve a suspension for a large chunk of time next season. It’s not a matter of if and it will be very interesting to see if he’ll still be a Yankee while serving it.
