Yankees set a franchise record by homering in 26th straight game
The Yankees eight-game winning streak ended Sunday afternoon against the Astros but their franchise record for hitting a home-run in consecutive games continued. DJ LeMahieu took Justin Verlander deep for a three-run home run which extended the streak to 26 games, surpassing the record set in 1941 by the Joe DiMaggio led Bronx Bombers.
To really put things into perspective the Yankees in 1941 ended the season with 151 home runs. These Yankees have already hit 126 and could very well break their single-season record of 267 home runs they set in 2018.
As we saw with LeMahieu’s blast off Verlander the Yanks certainly use the short porch in right field to their advantage but it’s not like all they do is hit what some would call “cheapies.” From top to bottom this Yankee lineup is filled with guys who can hit the ball well over 400 ft. They’re an absolutely relentless bunch and the crazy thing is that during this streak Aaron Judge and Giancarlo Stanton haven’t hit a single home run.
Now obviously they were both on the IL up until this past week but once they find their power strokes there’s no telling how long this streak can continue. Despite Sunday’s loss right now the lineup is still clicking on all cylinders especially LeMahieu, Gary Sanchez and Gleyber Torres.
LeMahieu has six bombs since the streak started on May 26th and continues to make a strong case to be the AL’s starting second basemen during next month’s All-Star game. Sanchez and Torres each had individual streaks of three straight games with a home run stopped on Sunday but during the team’s streak, they’ve combined for 14 home runs (Sanchez has 8, Torres has 6).
Before Cameron Maybin went on the IL on Saturday with a left calf strain he played a huge role in keeping this going by hitting a home run in four straight games from June 15th-18th. The Yanks are going to be without Maybin for the next four to six weeks but this team is certainly deep enough to make up for his absence.

It would go a long way if Didi Gregorius and Aaron Hicks could get going because since they’re returns off the IL they’ve really struggled. The sample size for Didi (.220 AVG, 1 HR, 3 RBI) has been smaller since his return on June 7th but Hicks has been back since Mid-May and he’s only hitting .202 with 4 HR in 109 at-bats.
Monday night in the Bronx the Yankees will look to tie the major league record set by the 2002 Texas Rangers of 27 straight games with a home run. They’ll try to accomplish that feat off Blue Jays starter Aaron Sanchez who has already allowed 12 long balls on the season and pitched to an ERA of 5.49.
Given Sanchez’s struggles so far this season and how red hot the Yankee offense has been of late, you have to like their chance to make some more history.
