On Episode 44 of R2C2, the podcast hosted by C.C. Sabathia and announcer Ryan Ruocco, a handful of Yankees gave their hottest takes as to how they believe the Game of Thrones series finale will conclude.
Yankees fans: If you haven’t watched Season 8 of HBO’s fantastical series ‘Game of Thrones,’ then avert your eyes, for this article is dark and full of spoilers.
Following the penultimate episode of GOT, entitled ‘The Bells,’ which aired on May 12, C.C. Sabathia gathered the most avid watchers of the show within the Yankee clubhouse for a discussion based around what these men believe will happen during the final installation of the hit series.
During the almost 50-minute podcast, Sabathia was joined by Zack Britton, Adam Ottavino, Tommy Kahnle, Cameron Maybin and the recently demoted Mike Tauchmann.
If you’ve explored social media, especially Twitter and Reddit following Episode 4, ‘The Last of the Starks,’ then you’re well aware that executive producers David Benioff and D.B. Weiss have come under much criticism for Season 8.

While I’ve done my very best to enjoy the journey that George R.R. Martin created, beginning in 1996 with ‘A Song of Fire and Ice,’ many fans are having a difficult time believing that Martin’s two unfinished novels would destroy character arcs and open as many plot holes as the Yankees have players on the injured list.
To those viewers, I remind you that this is Benioff and Weiss’ adaptation. Undoubtedly, Martin gave the pair or writer/producers the CliffsNotes version of how he’d like the series to finish on television, but let’s see how the finale goes before reigning down fire as Drogon did on Kings Landing.
The six Yankees at the center of the discussion didn’t give rave reviews on this last season, either — believing that the previous two seasons had been rushed.
Well, yeah, when you cut down the episode count from it’s traditional 10 to seven and six, respectively, a lot of wonderful moments from the books are bound to get left out.
Though the Bombers did admit that they enjoy watching the show together, as it is genuinely something to bond over, Sabathia called Season 8 “trash.”
Tauchmann was upset with the direction of Tyrian’s character, Kahnle was let down by the Night King, and Britton felt betrayed by Grey Worm.
As for how the Yanks believe the series finale will shape up, here are their predictions:
Sabathia believes Sansa will claim the Iron Throne with Tyrian “in some kind of way,” after Arya kills Daenerys. Sabathia also admitted he would be furious if Arya meets her maker.
Britton is pretty much in-line with Sabathia — saying Daenerys won’t make it out alive and Sansa ends up as Queen of the Seven Kingdoms.
Ottavino feels Sansa will be the only person left standing — who has enough experience to rule since Daenerys “definitely dies” and Arya “might.”
Kahnle takes a slightly different approach, noting that Arya will use her ability to take faces and kill Daenerys, leaving Tyrian as the most unlikely of kings as Jon Snow heads back to Winterfell.
Tauchmann, who is perhaps the most rabid GOT fan of the bunch, having read all the books and spending lots of time on Reddit forums and Wikis, thoughtfully proclaimed that no one would rule from the Iron Throne.
Instead, each kingdom will be independent. This, after Tryian, does the right thing and kills his queen, Sansa possibly messes things up (even more than she already has), Jon reunites with Ghost north of the wall, and Arya leaves Westeros forever.

And finally, Maybin holds the belief that all ends in a tidy, TV-friendly fashion, when Jon kills Daenerys to become king and Arya rides off into the sunset on the random white horse that Bran warged into.
