Clint Frazier became the 15th Yankees player to hit the injured list in 2019, and we’re just 24 games into the season. In a corresponding move, the Yanks acquired Cameron Maybin from Cleveland for cash considerations.
I don’t know who the Yankees need to call — The Ghostbusters, CDC or Jillian Michaels, but something needs to be done to quell the major league team of its insane amount of injuries.
Clint Frazier became the 15th player from the 25-man roster to be placed on the injured list, although the club feels that the 24-year-old outfielder should be able to return within 10-14 days from the ankle sprain he sustained in the 12th inning of Monday night’s affair versus the Angels.
Frazier, who finally seemed to be winning the hearts and minds of the Yankee faithful, hurt himself diving back into second base on a pickoff attempt when he got tangled up with shortstop Andrelton Simmons.
At this point, is it not pure bad luck that would see both Miguel Andujar and Frazier placed on the IL due to injuries sustained returning to a bag on pickoffs!

Unfortunately, Andujar’s partially torn right labrum in much more severe, as we await word whether he will return to action sometime in May or go under the knife and miss the remainder of the season.
Also on Wednesday, the ghost of injury past popped up regarding Giancarlo Stanton.
While rehabbing his strained right biceps, which by all accounts has healed, Stanton’s left shoulder starting barking — requiring him to receive a cortisone shot and therefore delaying his return to New York.
And so, compounded by Aaron Judge being out for at least a full month with an oblique strain, the Yanks acquired 12-year veteran outfielder Cameron Maybin from Cleveland for cash considerations.
Maybin, 32, is a career .254 hitter capable of playing all three outfield positions. Although he offers little in the way of offensive production (.216 with five RBIs in 14 games at Triple-A Columbus this season) with only three healthy outfielders; Brett Gardner, Mike Tauchmann and Tyler Wade — it’s quite likely Maybin is added to the 25-man roster this weekend when the Yanks take on the Giants.
After all, right-handed pitcher Jonathan Loaisiga was reassigned to Triple-A Scranton on Wednesday, thereby opening up a roster spot.
How much Maybin helps remains to be seen. After hitting just .249/.326/.336 with 14 doubles, four home runs, 28 RBIs and 10 stolen bases in 129 games with Miami and Seattle last season, perhaps like Tauchmann and Luke Voit before him, donning the pinstripes will bring out the best he has to offer.
Despite the rash of injuries and new additions, the Yankees defeated the Angels on Wednesday 6-5, their sixth win in a row to move within 1.5 games of first place Tampa. To battle back, down 5-0 at one point goes to show that the whole is greater than the sum of its parts.
