Yankees: Greg Bird hit by pitch; X-Rays negative
Yankees first baseman Greg Bird dodged a bullet. He was hit by a pitch on Thursday, however, X-Rays, fortunately, came out negative.
Here we go again. For what feels like the 20th time, Yankees first baseman Greg Bird was possibly headed to the injured list. Bird was even scratched from Friday’s lineup with tightness and swelling in his left elbow after being hit by a pitch. The Yanks sent Bird for x-rays as a precaution. With Bird, you simply never know the full extent of a potential injury.
Bird is battling for the first base position with Luke Voit. During this year’s Spring Training Bird slashed .317/481/.610 with three home runs, nine RBIs, and walked 12 times while scoring eight runs. He did pretty great.
A few hours after the game, Yankees’ manager Aaron Boone told reporters the X-Rays and CT Scan came back negative which is great news! Phew, Greg and the fans dodged a bullet right there.
Luckily he isn’t injured, otherwise, he would have joined Luis Severino, CC Sabathia, Dellin Betances, Aaron Hicks, and Didi Gregorius on the disabled list. That is definitely not the way on how you want to start off Opening Day.
Regardless, this is the reason why you always stock up on players and get insurance because you just never know who will end up getting injured. Bird can actually play games since he’s okay now.

Bird played in 82 games in the ’18 season slashing .199/.286/.386 hitting 11 home runs, 38 RBIs, 16 doubles and scored 23 runs.
He didn’t play in 58 games due to being on the disabled list from March 29, 2018, through May 26, 2018. Bird underwent ankle surgery. He then underwent another surgery due to a small bone spur which needed to be removed.
Cashman told NJ.com that if anything, Greg may be day-to-day:
“He could have played today, but he is swollen, so let’s get him back and get him checked out,” GM Brian Cashman said. “And if he needs a few days, so be it.”
Did Greg lose a lot of stock value? It appears so, so I’m not even sure if he can even be traded anymore. I’m not Brian Cashman, so I’m not sure what Cash can pull off. Regardless, the Yankees’ have a lot of faith in Greg as he has a lot of potential, but he needs to stop getting hurt.
The Yankees’ Opening Day is March 28th.
