There is much disagreement about how well the Yankees will perform this upcoming season. Some argue that the team needs another first-rate starting pitcher while others contend that they must sign either Manny Machado or Bryce Harper if the team hopes to make it to the World Series this year. They are all wrong: the Yanks will dominate every team with their present roster in 2019.

Most Yankees fans agree that the team did very well in 2018 and for good reason. The team went 100-62, and it established an all-time home run record by hitting 267 balls out of the yard. Yankee batters drove in 821 RBIs, just eight behind the Boston Red Sox who were 108-54.

The Yanks accomplished these feats and others while having a number of key players on the disabled list for significant lengths of time. Jordan Montgomery, the club’s fifth starter, went out in early May during the 2018 season and was forced to have Tommy John surgery in early June. He should be back around August this season.

Similarly, Clint Frazier was injured most of the 2018 season with serious health problems, including a severe concussion followed by strong after effects. He is now recovered from the symptoms of the concussion and is expected to enter camp fully healthy and ready to compete for the starting job in left field.

Some of the Yankees top stars also spent a good bit of time on the disabled list including Gary Sanchez (two stints, 63 G), Aaron Judge (49 G), Gleyber Torres (20 G), Didi Gregorius (18 G), and Aaron Hicks (13). Other key pitchers joined Montgomery on the DL for varying numbers of days, such as Masahiro Tanaka, Aroldis Chapman, and CC Sabathia.

While plenty of other MLB teams had important players spend time on the disabled list, the Yankees were especially negatively impacted. In fact, it is truly amazing that the club was able to hit so many home runs and win 100 games despite the number of outstanding players who were on the DL during the season, often at the same time.

On top of all this, the Yankees had a rookie manager, Aaron Boone. He made critical mistakes during the season, some that cost the Yanks important games. However, he also learned a great deal from his first year as manager, and he should be a much more effective leader as the skipper next year. The learning curve is always steep for rookie managers.

Despite the team’s overall success, Brian Cashman and the Yanks front office weren’t satisfied because the team didn’t make it to the World Series in 2018. And why should they be?

As a consequence, the Yankees spent a substantial amount of money improving the ballclub during the offseason by signing stellar free agents. Within the next week, new faces showing up at Steinbrenner Field during Spring Training will include SS Troy Tulowitzki, LHP Zack Britton, LHP James Paxton, INF DJ LeMahieu, and RHP Adam Ottavino. As much as these new players will improve the club’s offense, they’ll also help improve the team’s defense.

Then there is Manny Machado, waiting in the wings to join the Yankees, his childhood dream. Don’t be surprised if he ends up with New York. If that happens, an already fearsome starting lineup will become unstoppable overnight. If the Yanks acquire Machado, it will be heaven for the ball club and its fans, and hell for those who have to pitch and play against him during the regular season and during the intense and competitive postseason.

Even if the Yanks don’t sign Machado, the club will be the best baseball team of all time. The club will hit 300 home runs and will win a record 118 games. The number and high quality of players who spent time on the DL this past season was a fluke, and this won’t happen again in 2019.

Paxton and Sevy will be monsters throughout the year, and the relief pitching will consistently shut down other ball clubs. Get in line for your tickets to the World Series now!
