The Yankees and their fans got some great news on Wednesday as shortstop Didi Gregorius has been cleared by the doctors to resume baseball activities, meaning he’s likely to play in the Wild Card game and potentially more.

Yankees broadcaster Michael Kay received word from outside sources that shortstop Didi Gregorius has been cleared for baseball activities, after receiving a cortisone shot in his right wrist. However, Didi is not in Wednesday night’s lineup vs. the Rays.

Didi slid into home plate head first in Saturday’s game against the Orioles’ after Aaron Hicks hit a walk-off double in the 11th inning that allowed the Bombers to clinch a Postseason berth. That slide injured Gregorius’ right wrist — and an MRI later showed a cartilage tear.

Manager Aaron Boone was recently on the Michael Kay Show, and he confirmed that Gregorius has in fact been cleared to resume baseball activity.

Without any further complications, Sir Didi should be able to make it through the playoffs, which is tremendous news for Yankee Universe, as he is crucial to the success of the lineup.

In his last 30 games, Gregorius has hit .260/.356/.540 with seven home runs and 22 RBIs. With Giancarlo Stanton and Gary Sanchez starting to heat up, as they showed in Tuesday’s 9-2 win over the Rays, Gregorius’ return will only aid the club in keeping their 2.5 game lead for the first Wild Card spot.

Stanton was 1-for-4, with two runs, one double and a walk. The Kraken was 2-for-4, with a home run, four RBIs and a walk. If the Yanks can continue to fire on all cylinders, they’ll be in great shape headed into the playoffs.

The Yankees magic number is now two, so if the Yanks (95-60) win on Wednesday against the Rays’ (87-80) and the Athletics’ (95-63) lose to the Mariners’ (86-71), the Bombers will clinch home-field advantage, which will be incredible.
