Yankees shortstop Didi Gregorius was officially activated from the disabled list on Friday, 19 days after colliding with Blue Jays first baseman Kendrys Morales.

The Yankees are finally getting shortstop Didi Gregorius back, some 19 days after he collided with Toronto first baseman Kendrys Morales.  According to manager Aaron Boone, Gregorius had a pretty bad bruise — bad enough that Didi was initially sent to the hospital for examination and then the disabled list.

With three weeks of the regular season remaining, the Yanks are in great need of getting their best players back from the disabled list.

Following their 4-0 win over the Mariners on Friday night, the Bombers hold a 3.5 game lead over the Oakland A’s for the first Wild Card spot.

Luckily, Gary Sanchez has also recently been activated from the disabled list, (after aggravating his right groin) although, Sanchez continues to struggle with passed balls.

If Sanchez can repeat his September 2017 numbers of .303 BA/.354 OBP/.528 SLG, the Yankees could potentially make one last push to capture the AL East crown. With six games remaining against the first place Red Sox, the Yanks currently sit 8.5 games back — no small task.

However, the Yankees now have Sir Didi back who is hitting .283 with 22 home runs and 74 RBIs on the season. The last offensive player still on the disabled list besides Jacoby Ellsbury, who is out for the remainder of the season due to a torn labrum, is Aaron Judge, who should return within the next two weeks.

Though Didi didn’t get into Friday night’s 4-0 win, we should expect to see him back in the lineup sometime this weekend.

Whatever the case is, this is perfect timing for Sir Didi to make his triumphant return. With Aaron Judge ramping up his rehab (Aroldis Chapman is another player that is doubtful to return to action this season), the Bombers should soon be back in prime position, preparing for a long Postseason run.
