July 30th: Yankees acquire $1.25 million in international slot money from the Mariners for RHP Adam Warren

This was the biggest shocker for me considering how important Warren has been to the Yankees over the years. He’s filled whatever role they’ve asked him to in both of his stints in New York and he did so admirably. He was another one of the odd men out in the pen once Britton was acquired but I didn’t think his roster spot would be in jeopardy.

Warren hadn’t pitched as well this season as he has in year’s past and he also missed a chunk of time with an injury during the first half. When he pitched it wasn’t in high leverage spots and usually came in with the team losing.

Since he’s due for free agency at the end of the season Warren was expendable so the Yanks traded him for the $1.25 million in slot money and opened up his spot on the 25-man roster for somebody else. It’s sad to see him go and he probably deserved better from the organization he came up with, but he’ll have more opportunities with the Mariners to help them fight for a playoff spot. Best wishes to him.
