July 29th: Yankees acquire 1B Luke Voit and international slot money from Cardinals for LHP Chasen Shreve and RHP Giovanny Gallegos

The writing was on the wall for Chasen Shreve once the Yankees acquired Britton and Happ and he knew it. Instead of just designating him for assignment the Yankees did him a favor by trading him to St. Louis for Voit and more international slot money. They also included Gallegos and in doing so opened up two more spots on the 40-man roster.

With the Yankees bullpen so stacked, there was no room for either one of them to pitch consistently with the big league club. Getting Voit, a power right-handed bat was a solid addition to give them depth at Triple-A. He could be a potential option to be called up to DH against lefties until Judge returns and now with Tyler Austin gone as well, we could see him this weekend in Boston.

July 29th: Yankees acquire $1.5 million in international slot money from the White Sox for LHP Caleb Frare

This was another trade made to give the Yankees some more money to spend on the international market. The 25-year Frare was having a very good season and showed some promise with Double-A Trenton, but he was also shipped off instead of being added to the 40-man roster this offseason. In trading him the Yankees got back more slot money and already put some of it to use to sign the top international pitching prospect on the market in Osiel Rodriguez.
