Less than 24 hours after a report surfaced that the Yankees refused to offer any top-10 prospects for Manny Machado, the New York Post has changed course to say the Yanks have indeed offered a package of top young talent.

The will he or won’t he saga of Manny Machado to the Yankees hit a fever pitch on Sunday, and we’ve still got a little over two weeks until the July 31 non-waiver trade deadline.

Less than 24 hours after the New York Post reported that the Yanks refused to offer the Orioles any of their top-10 prospects for four-time All-Star Manny Machado, due to the fact Machado can enter free agency a season’s end, George A. King III of the Post penned a piece titled ‘Maybe the Yankees are offering top prospects for Manny Machado.’

In the article, King states that “another voice” has made it clear the Yanks did indeed offer a package of some of their top-flight talent for Machado.

Perhaps this has something to do with talks between the O’s and Phillies intensifying in recent days, including the swap of some of Philly’s brightest farmhands.

More from Yankees News

"Phillies names being discussed are outfielder Jhailyn Ortiz (19), right-handed pitcher Franklyn Kilome (23), right-handed pitcher Adonis Medina (21) and shortstop Arquimedes Gamboa (20)."

According to MLB Pipeline, Medina is Philadelphia’s No. 2 prospect; Ortiz No. 5; Kilmone No. 7 and Gamboa No. 8.

Since no one involved in the Yankee talks knows precisely what the organization may have offered for Machado, a stellar player who at this point, seems intent to stay at shortstop (potentially creating an issue with Didi Gregorius’ future), it’s best to steer clear of speculation. But what fun is that?!

Taking into consideration that the Yankees have already made it clear they will not trade No. 2 prospect Justus Sheffield — in comparison to the players the Phillies have made available, perhaps the Yanks could send a package of blocked talents such as Clint Frazier and Tyler Wade, alongside No. 3 prospect, right-handed pitcher Albert Abreu or Domingo German for the rights to essentially re-sign Machado this winter.

Though Frazier and Wade are no longer considered “prospects,” both are 23 with immense upside and would immediately help Baltimore rebuild for better days. We’ve recently learned that the Tigers like the two in a potential deal for the struggling Michael Fulmer.

Next: Is Matt Harvey a good fit for the Yanks now?

For now, we must wait to see if general manager Brian Cashman values adding more offense or if he will shift gears towards a reliable starting pitcher, much like Mike Lupica of the NY Daily News pleased for on Sunday.
