The Yankees and Giancarlo Stanton could not have scripted a more picture perfect Opening Day in their 6-1 win over the Blue Jays.
It certainly didn’t take long for Stanton to have his first signature moment in a Yankees uniform after he blasted not one but two monster home runs in his team debut. It was the first two of many home runs we’ll see during his Yankees tenure and exactly what he needed as he begins this next journey of his career.
It’s always a plus for any player to get off to a good start to their season, but Stanton isn’t just any other player. With all eyes on him entering his first season in New York, where expectations couldn’t be any higher, this was the perfect way to introduce himself to Yankee fans and the New York media.
Not that a player of Stanton’s caliber couldn’t recover from a poor start but when you play for this team in this market getting off to a good start is the perfect way to ease some pressure off yourself. I know that it’s only one game, but the fact that Stanton already got that first home run out of the way should be huge for him. It’s a weight off his shoulders and now he can just go out there and let the game come to him like he always has throughout his all-star career.
The same can be said for new skipper Aaron Boone (at least for a day) after he picked up his first win as a big league manager thanks to the heroics of Stanton.

After only watching Stanton from afar when he was with the Marlins one thing you don’t see in all the highlights is how composed he is during his at-bats.
Yesterday he was locked in from the start and looked like someone who was ready to embrace the challenge of being a star player for the New York Yankees.
He displayed a certain swagger about him without coming off as cocky which is something that should help him adjust to playing in an environment that could be very stressful for a lot of players.

It was a debut Yankee fans will always remember and a preview of things to come from last year’s NL MVP.
After the game fellow 50-home run slugger Aaron Judge was asked for his thoughts on Stanton’s memorable debut and summed his feelings up with one word.
“Wow“.
Get used to being wowed all season Aaron.
