Yankees version: The Twelve Days of Christmas

NEW YORK, NY - OCTOBER 18: Didi Gregorius
NEW YORK, NY - OCTOBER 18: Didi Gregorius

We all know that catchy old tune. But like me, you’re probably wondering what they’re talking about with some of those lyrics. Here’s a 2017 version all Yankees fans will get!

Originally published in 1780 in England, The Twelve Days of Christmas was thought to have been French. I can assure you that this version is all Yankees. So start singing along!

On the twelfth day of Christmas, the Yankees gave to me…

Twelve K’s a swinging

Eleven hitters raking

Ten Yanks a leaping

Nine pinstriped jerseys

Eight homers flying

Seven monuments gleaming

SIX-4-3 double plays

Five Gold Gloves

Four Didi emojis

Three bases loaded

Two thumbs down

And a new ring in ’18!

I can hear you singing already!

The Christmas season means different things to everyone. Family, friends, peace, joy, love… and gifts. Not particularly of the material variety. Gifts of all are what’s stated.

What we received as a special gift of the 2017 New York Yankees was truly special. Who would have thought they could have reached the ALCS? Picked at best to be third in the AL East, not many people gave them a fighting chance.

We, the fans, definitely saw it all. Hitters raking, K’s a swinging, homers flying, 6-4-3 double plays, all presented in a very grand manner.

These positive results will undoubtedly continue in 2018. And no doubt, with the gifts general manager Brian Cashman, has contributed to the campaign this offseason, winning streaks will be even grander.

And boy, was it was FUN! We got to witness a young and eager group bond, and have a fantastic time breaking records and winning hearts; Didi tweets and emojis, the thumbs down movement; the gift of laughter and comradery.

Due to the history of the Yanks, that we all treasure so dearly, the gifts of the past, showcased in those seven magnificent outfield monuments will continue to act as inspiration for a team on the cusp of making their own history.

The gifts that come in the future hopefully will include Gold Gloves, Cy Young’s, MVP Awards and most importantly, a brand new ring in the new year!
