Yankees: Aaron Boone is not his brother Bret

Former big leaguer and brother of Yankees managerial candidate Aaron Boone, Bret, really stepped in it yesterday, making light of sexual harassment while on Twitter.

In an effort to push his own personal agenda wrapped around an unfortunate warped sense of humor, Bret Boone, older brother of Yankees managerial candidate Aaron Boone, mocked sexual assault victims in an unprovoked rant directed to Seattle Post-Intelligencer reporter Stephen Cohen on Twitter.

On the same day that Matt Lauer was fired from NBC for mounting allegations of sexual assault and harassment, Boone took to social media with what he thought was a “joke”: “I got sexually harassed twice today, Boone typed. The Starbucks girl smiled at me and the woman at Rite Aid flirted with me. I’m getting a lawyer, unacceptable lol.”

But oh no, the former four-time Gold Glove winner didn’t stop there, continuing his cringe-worthy commentary.

After Cohen replied to Boone, asking why he would send a journalist an “unsolicited” direct message, Boone messaged back:

"“Because it’s a joke and I have no clue who u are, nor do I care. Just sick of all the liberal bs and everyone all the sudden is offended. Sorry that bothered u. Go back to whatever you do in your pc world, and once again, I apologize if u were offended…You definitely would not be allowed to play golf in my foursome.”More from Yanks Go Yard3 cost-effective free agents who can fill out Yankees roster after Aaron Judge dealYankees sign Carlos Rodón after Scott Boras staredown to fill out special 2023 rotationDid wild Max Fried trade rumor give Yankees perfect fallback plan?Red Sox DFAing Derek Jeter-inspired piece of Mookie Betts trade gives Yankees fans joyYankees’ reported backup plan if Carlos Rodón falls through will crush Red Sox"

There was a final line of dialogue but by now you get the picture.

As if this stream of consciousness wasn’t bad enough, the usual peanut gallery decided to chime in, with a truly ridiculous comment flying in minutes later.

One misinformed user tweeted: “If the @Yankees hire @AaronBoone_ESPN I’m done with the team. I know it’s his brother but I bet they share beliefs on this.”

Wow. This is just one of the many things wrong with certain individuals on social media. As if what Bret Boone said wasn’t bad enough, you, ill-informed tweeter, decide to play judge, jury and executioner.

I guess some people just need to be heard so badly that they fail to understand their verbal diarrhea really doesn’t need to be spread for all the word to hear.

Surely, this guy had to be shocked when none other than Aaron Boone, himself, commented below his tweet: “Then you bet wrong.”

Another person, who clearly has no idea who Aaron, Bret or Bob Boone is, for that matter, chimed in like only an internet troll could.

Bret Boone did later apologize for his comments, but by then the damage was done.

Next: Mock transactions made for the Yankees

"“All, there are zero excuses for what I said earlier. None. It was 100% wrong. It was offensive. It was inappropriate. It was not remotely productive to any conversation regarding harassment. I apologize and it will never happen again.”"

This should never be a reflection on Aaron just because they share the same last name. So let’s not even go there.
