Yankees manager Joe Girardi hinted to the media on Thursday regarding a potential change at the DH spot with Matt Holliday.

The New York Yankees are getting ready for their first trip back to the ALCS since 2012, this time against the all-powerful Houston Astros. One area manager Joe Girardi will need to make some tough decisions is at DH.

In the ALDS against the Cleveland Indians, New York did not get a single hit out of any of their designated hitters. Both Jacoby Ellsbury and Chase Headley combined to go 0-for-16 with eight strikeouts from this position.

When asked on Thursday about whether or not Joe would attempt to use Matt Holliday as a DH in the ALCS, all he said was “Stay tuned.” What kind of magic does Girardi potentially have in store for this series? He better not pull out something too drastic since he is just coming off a very controversial series where his team potentially saved his job.

It should be noted that Matt Holliday has not played in a game for the Yankees since October 1, which was almost two full weeks ago.

“Sure, sure, I’d like to be out there,” Holliday told The Daily News recently when asked if he’s frustrated with no playing time. “But, just be ready in case there’s a situation where they think it’s right.”

The veteran slugger is no stranger to postseason baseball as well, as he has played in 72 career postseason games in some critical situations. He has a career .247/.305/.427 slash line with 13 home runs when the lights are brightest in October.

If Girardi does decide to use Holliday in the lineup this series it would be smart to use him in Game 1 against left-hander Dallas Keuchel. He could inject some veteran offense into a lineup that seems like they desperately need it.
