The Yankees manager, wherever he is now, is already thinking. He’s thinking about the problems the team has now, some big and some small, and what he needs to do to solve them. In a meeting tonight with his coaches, a fly on the wall would listen to the conversation……….

Yankees Manager, Joe Girard: Well guys, I know it’s late, but I thought it would be a good idea to get together and toss some ideas around. And there’s no better place to do that than in Detroit (laughs).

No really, I’ve done some thinking and the big one, I guess, is what to do with Aaron Judge. His at-bats yesterday cannot be rationalized. He stunk. So, Marcus, what do you think?

Yankees Hitting Instructor, Marcus ThamesJoe, I’m afraid I have to agree with you. And for the first time, I noticed a change in his body language that spells a loss of confidence. And if that’s the case, he no good to anyone right now, and most of all, himself.

Girardi: Yeah, I had the same feeling. Robbie, what about you?

Yankees Bench Coach, Rob Thomson  I’m with you Joe, whatever you say.

Girardi: Ah okay, thank you for that, Robbie. Tony, what do you think?

Yankees First Base Coach, Tony PenaJoe, have you thought about moving him down in the lineup? That would remove some of the pressure he’s feeling in the number three spot.

Girardi: That’s a good thought, Tony. I have thought about it and I think we should do it, not right now though because I have a feeling if he’s going to break out, here against the Tigers is when it’s most likely to happen.

Pena: Is that like the feeling you’ve been having with Aroldis? (laughs)

Girardi: Ouch, that hurt, Tony. But you’re probably right. He looked okay yesterday, but he’s still not right. Larry, what did you see from Chapman?

Yankees Pitching Coach, Larry Rothschild (speaking from a rocking chair in the corner) Well Joe, you know I’ve been doing this for a very long time, and there’s just something off about the kid now. His velocity is there, but his ball isn’t moving. I’d use Robertson and Betances as your closer. Anyway, that’s what all my years tell me.

Girardi: Ten-four on that, Larry.

Thomson: That’s right, Joe.

Girardi: Ah, good to know, Robbie. Now, what about Gary? I probably shouldn’t have played in a day game yesterday after a night game, but at some point, he’s got to be able to do that in this league.

Pena: Yeah, Joe.You sure blew that one. And did you see those two wild pitches that should have been called passed balls, leading to Red Sox runs?

Girardi: For your information Tony, I did see them. And I was tempted to call him out for it, but I’ve done so much of that this season, I just don’t know.

More from Yanks Go Yard

Pena: It’s looking more and more like there’s a lot of things you don’t know, Joe.

Girardi: Yeah well, I appreciate you not taking your desire for my job publicly, but you’re getting a little out of line here, Tony.

Rothschild: Now boys, let’s settle down and stay on point. Ah, what was the point?

Thames: The point is, Larry, if you’ve been listening, that we don’t know what the f__k we’re doing here, and we don’t have solutions for anything, do we?

Girardi: Ah, that’s a little rough, Marcus, don’t ya think?

Thomson: Hey Joe. I just thought if you decide to manage somewhere else next season, think you might want to take me along with you?

Girardi: For heaven’s sake, not now Robbie.

Thomson: Sure thing, Skipper.

Thames: Well, I’m about ready to call it a night. What do you say, guys?

Girardi: Hold on guys. I thought we might order room service and get some breakfast, my treat.

Pena: Joe, what’s wrong with you? It’s three in the morning, and we’re in Detroit, for God’s sake.

Next: Are the Yanks capable of making noise in the Playoffs

Girardi: Oh yeah, my bad. I guess tomorrow;s another day.

Thomson: You sure are right about that, Joe.

Girardi: Thanks, Robbie. It’s sure good to be right about something these days.
