Yankees sluggers Aaron Judge and Gary Sanchez have been selected as two of the four American League participants in the Home Run Derby. On Monday, July 10, they will swing for the fences in Marlins Park to try and dethrone Giancarlo Stanton.
Yankees sluggers Aaron Judge and Gary Sanchez’s fates have been sealed for Mondays Home Run Derby. With the recently updated format, each hitter will go head to head against another slugger, and the player with the most home runs moves on.
Judge was handed the second seed and will take on Justin Bour, while Sanchez will be the underdog with the eighth seed, and will try and defeat Giancarlo Stanton. The full bracket is as follows:
(1) Giancarlo Stanton v (8) Gary Sanchez
(2) Aaron Judge v (7) Justin Bour
(3) Cody Bellinger v (6) Charlie Blackmon
(4) Mike Moustakas v (5) Miguel Sano
Judge leads all of baseball with 29 home runs this year and is second in RBI with 65, and fourth in average with a .331 mark. He has tied Joe DiMaggio’s rookie record with 29 home runs in a season, with more than half of the season still to be played.

Sanchez has hit 13 home runs so far in 2017, after a ridiculous run of 20 home runs in 53 games in 2016. He owns a slash line of .289/.379/.517 with 40 RBI. Sanchez has missed 20 games this season after being sidelined with a bicep injury.
Ray’s first baseman Logan Morrison has been critical of Sanchez’s selection to the Derby. Morrison has hit 24 home runs this season, and “Remembers when he had 14 home runs, almost a month and a half ago.” Sanchez responded by saying, “What do you want me to do? They asked me to participate, and I accepted.”
