The Yankees, have risen to the number three position in all of baseball in the latest rankings of teams in the weekly rankings conducted by Fox Sports. Hail to Caesar and render unto Caesar what is Ceasar’s.
The Yankees have now risen, as I predicted (all genuflect please) to the number three spot in the weekly publishing of team ranking for all major league teams. Even your corner 7-Eleven store seems to a have a need for the corner on this market, but let’s agree that no matter where you, the Yankees are pushing up against some pretty good teams.
Fox Sports summarizes it this way:
#3
New York Yankees (15-8)
Last Week: 7
One Nice Thing: The Yankees pitchers lead baseball in WHIP at 1.16
Okay, that’s fresh, and we’ll take the WHIP thing in evaluating the Yankees overall. But they’ve missed a few things, haven’t they? Like, they could have at least mentioned Aaron Judge, and his behemoth start to the 2017 season, in which he was almost given up for dead for Aaron Hicks who, by the way, will end up being an integral part of this team down the road.
Do You Want To See Last Season’s Rankings?
It’s pretty much what you might have expected at his juncture of the 2016 season, but here’s a peak at how Sports Illustrated saw the team, putting them at #12 in the rankings back then.
More from Yanks Go Yard
- Did Yankees troll Jon Heyman with Aaron Judge contract tweet?
- Matt Carpenter leaving Yankees for massive raise is hard to argue with
- What on earth is going on with Yankees, Fernando Tatis Jr. and flight to New York?
- 4 former Yankees players New York can still reunite with in free agency
- Yankees top prospects butt heads after Giants’ gritty win over Commanders
Pick your poison and if someone wants to argue that the team is fourth or fifth instead of third, go for it. And if you do, you’re missing the point which is that this team is light years removed from anything having to do with that team last season, or for any team that has surfaced since the glory days of “The Run.”
At this time last season, we were still talking about Alex Rodriguez and (bless his heart) Mark Teixeria and how many games his fragile body would allow him to play. I mean you have to stretch the long term memory of your brain to even remember those days, no?
Yankees Are Pushing Up And Not Looking Back
In the current rankings, the Pinstripes are pushing up and have gone beyond teams like the LA Dodgers (14-12), the Cubs (13-11), the Cleveland Indians (14-10), and the Boston Red Sox (13-11) who, are still looking for a ghost of David Ortiz in their locker room and a healthy David Price.

The Yankees are not the premier team in the major leagues this season. The Washington Nationals are, and if they can add a closer at some point during the season, they are primed to walk away with this thing.
But the Yankees, with the team they have, plus the one they’ll be getting soon with the re-addition of Gary Sanchez to their lineup, are also primed to make a lot of noise before anything is settled.
It’s good that someone else besides us has been watching, and the new rankings reflect that, but someone’s got to dig a little deeper than just pointing to a WHIP of 1.16 to justify this team as being placed at number three.
Yankees: 40-Man Roster Crunch Makes Them Explosive At The Deadline
The Yankees have a problem and it has nothing to do with on the field play. They have too much talent and they're going to be looking to deal with it.
Because I’m afraid there’s a whole lot more to it than that.
