Yanks Go Yard Radio Show: Red Sox-Yankees (9/27-9/29)
On last night’s Yanks Go Yard Radio Show, we looked ahead to David Ortiz’s final series at Yankee Stadium when New York takes on Boston
At the beginning of last night’s Yanks Go Yard Radio Show, I gave my takeaways from the New York Yankees (80-76) losing three out of four games to the Toronto Blue Jays over the weekend and the brawl from last night. Plus, I gave my thoughts on the passing of Jose Fernandez. Our thoughts and prayers from all of us at Yanks Go Yard go out to the Marlins, the friends and family of Jose Fernandez, and the friends and family of the two other people who passed away in the boating accident.
Tonight, the Yankees begin their final homestand of the season when they begin a three game series against the Boston Red Sox (92-64). The Red Sox come into the Bronx on a 11-game win streak and their magic number to clinch the AL East for the first time since 2013 is one.

Over the course of this long win streak, Boston has won every game by four or fewer runs. In their last series against the Yankees (September 15-18), first baseman Hanley Ramirez hit three home runs, including a walk-off in the series opener. This month, Ramirez is hitting .341 with ten home runs and 26 RBI’s (22 games).
The other major storyline in this series is this will be David Ortiz’s last visit to Yankee Stadium. Ortiz has had some great moments in his career at the old and new Yankee Stadium. Since the new stadium opened in 2009, he has 15 home runs and 32 RBI’s in 58 games.
On the mound, the Red Sox have the best team ERA (2.72) of any team in the American League this month. Since the All-Star Break, Rick Porcello (not pitching in this series) is 11-4 with a 2.51 ERA and has 21 wins on the season. Plus, David Price is 8-2 in his last 14 starts.
My guest on last night’s Yanks Go Yard Radio Show was Sean Sylver from 98.5 The Sports Hub. Sean gave his take on what has been the key behind the Red Sox 11-game win streak and who should John Farrell pick as the number three starter in the postseason behind Price and Porcello.
