Three members of the New York Yankees will play in the 2016 MLB All Star Game on Tuesday, July 12 in beautiful Petco Park.
Here is a look at the three Yankees suiting up for the American League squad in tonight’s All Star Game:
Dellin Betances– The 28-year-old native of Brooklyn, New York has been elected to the All Star squad in all three full seasons of his young career. Betances has been the most valuable reliever in the major leagues by fWAR in the first half with 2.2 wins above replacement and leads all qualified relievers with 15.95 strikeouts per nine innings. He has a 2.66 ERA and 1.20 FIP in 44 innings pitched before the break.
Andrew Miller– After three straight seasons as one of the most dominant relievers in baseball, Andrew Miller has finally gotten in first All Star nod in 2016. Miller ranks just behind his teammate Betances with 15.79 strikeouts per nine innings, still good for a respectable second place in the majors. One major advantage the lanky lefty miller has over Betances, however, is his ability to avoid free passes. Miller’s insane 11.5 K/BB ratio is easily the best in MLB. This could be something of a last hurrah for Miller in pinstripes, as trade rumors have swirled around Miller and his teammate Aroldis Chapman because of the Yankees mediocre start to the season.
Carlos Beltran– This All Star selection is just another notch in the bedpost for Beltran’s Hall of Fame case. It will be the ninth of his career, but his first as a member of the Yankees. His last trip to the midsummer classic was in 2013 for St. Louis. You have to go all the way back to 2004 when Beltran played for Kansas City to find the last time he suited up for the American League side. Like Miller, this could be Beltran’s final bow as a member of the Yankees. Even if he isn’t traded at the deadline, the chances of the team retaining a 39-year-old free agent DH after the season are not good considering their efforts to get younger.

Notes:
By my count, there are five former Yankees elected to the 2016 midsummer classic:
Eduardo Nunez,
Robinson Cano,
Mark Melancon,
Bartolo Colon, and
Jose Quintana. Also, one future Yankee in
Bryce Harper.
