Update (2:10pm)
The Yankees don’t plan on trading Luis Severino.
#Yankees say no substantive talks with #Marlins about Fernandez, none ongoing

For what it’s worth, #Yankees say today what have all offseason: Severino is going nowhere. Was not in offer for #Marlins Fernandez

Yesterday we reported that the New York Yankees reached out to the Miami Marlins in lieu of the recent availability of super star right-hander Jose Fernandez.
In our article we discussed that the Yankees would be wise to hold on to top prospects Luis Severino and Gregory Bird, even if it meant the acquisition of the 22-year old Fernandez.
However, according to Marlins reporter Joe Frisaro, it appears as if Brian Cashman was in fact willing to deal the 21-year old Luis Severino;
The #Yankees were willing to deal Severino in package w/ #Marlins for Jose. Belief NY doesn't have enough, even if included Bird.

Still, as Frisaro notes, the Yankees would have been turned down if their deal included Luis Severino and even Greg Bird.
I’m not surprised at all, as the Marlins are looking for an incredible package in return for their top pother. They reportedly asked the Dodgers for both Julio Urias and Corey Seager as well as Patrick Corbin from the Arizona Diamondbacks.
Jose Fernandez is one of – it not the best young pitcher in the National League. After going 12-6 with 187 strikeouts and a 2.19 ERA and making a name for himself during his rookie season in 2013, he underwent tommy john surgery in the early stages of his sophomore season. He returned late in 2015 and pitched to a 6-1 record with a 2.92 ERA.
To kick off day two of the Winter Meetings, Jayson Stark reported that an unidentified fourth ‘mystery’ team entered into trade talks with Miami for their ace;
Sources: Mystery team making "very strong" bid for Jose Fernandez. Other clubs believe it's the Astros. More soon at https://t.co/gtnhE81RUu

It’s unclear whether or not that team was the New York Yankees, but they clearly aren’t the front-runners to acquire Jose Fernandez.
One thing that is clear however is that Yankees prospect Luis Severino isn’t as ‘untouchable’ as we all thought…
Stay tuned.
