Though we are less than one full day into the annual GM meetings, there is already some significant news coming out of the New York Yankees camp that’s making headlines across baseball.
According to Jon Heyman of CBS Sports, Brian Cashman is willing to listen to offers for the 2015 American League Reliever of the Year Andrew Miller.
"“We’re open to all ideas, as always,” Cashman told Heyman in regard to Miller. “It doesn’t mean I’d do anything, but if the Dutch never asked the Indians for Manhattan you’d be living in New Jersey.”"

Heyman also noted that the Yankees would want a significant package or a major league ready ace in return for their All Star Closer. Heyman suggested that Washington Nationals right-hander Stephen Strasburg might make sense in a trade, but while Miller is certainly a closer who wouldn’t start a fight with Bryce Harper in the dugout, I’m not sure the Nationals would be willing to make that particular swap.
Andrew Miller obviously wouldn't come cheap. Yanks would seek ace type or haul in return, someone like Stephen strasburg.

Aside from the Nationals, Heyman suggested that the Red Sox, Tigers, Diamondbacks, Astros and Blue Jays will be in the hunt to acquire a closer in the off-season, and interestingly enough, both Houston and Toronto missed out on Miller last off-season when the southpaw signed with the Yankees on a four year. $36 MM deal.
Miller was nothing short of brilliant in first season with the Yankees and first season as a full-time closer. Despite spending some time on the disabled list, he still converted 36 saves in 38 opportunities and pitched to an incredible 2.04 ERA in 61.2 innings pitched.
Though no trade is imminent, if the Yankees do in fact move Miller, they don’t necessarily need to acquire another closer because they can just slot Dellin Betances into the closers role.
It’s important to note that Andrew Miller does not have a no-trade clause in his contract…
