*Editor’s Note: This show was recorded Thursday night, before tonight’s game was postponed .

On last night’s episode of the Yanks Go Yard Radio Show, I started the episode by talking about the New York Yankees (87-72) recent series against the Boston Red Sox. While the Bronx Bombers did lose three out of four games to Boston in their final home series of the regular season, they got the one win that mattered. Last night, the Yankees clinched their first postseason berth since 2012 and won the 10,000th game in the franchise’s illustrious history.

Before New York takes the field in the Wild Card Game on Tuesday night, they still have three games left in the regular series. This weekend, the Bronx Bombers are in Baltimore to take on the Orioles (78-81). It’s been a disappointing season for the O’s when you consider that last year, they were getting ready to take part in the postseason.

While Baltimore is 14-13 this month, their season will be defined by their disappointing performances in July and August (22-32 record). Their offense has continued to be the story as free agent to be first baseman Chris Davis is hitting .258 with 45 home runs and 112 RBI’s. As a team, the O’s have hit 212 home runs this year, which is tied with the Yankees for third in baseball (only behind the Astros and Blue Jays).

Another player that has had a standout season for the O’s this year is third baseman Manny Machado (.287, 33 HR, 82 RBI’s). Yesterday, Machado hit two home runs against the Blue Jays and he has three home runs in his last seven games. Plus, Machado has 3o doubles and 20 stolen bases this year.

The problem for the Orioles this season has been their starting rotation. Since the All-Star Break, Baltimore’s rotation has a 4.48 ERA, which is the fourth highest ERA in the American League. One of the major disappointments in their rotation this season has been Chris Tillman. Tillman went from one of the better starters in the American League last season to a pitcher that has a 5.05 ERA this year.

To talk more about the O’s, I spoke with Joe Serpico, who is the co-editor of Fansided’s regional Baltimore site, The Baltimore Wire. Joe gave his take on some of the surprises/disappointments of the Orioles in 2015, the reported tension between manager Buck Showalter and general manager Dan Duquette, could closer Zach Britton move back to the rotation if the team doesn’t re-sign free agent pitcher Wei-Yin Chen, and what would be the first move Joe would make this winter if he was Duquette.
