New York Yankees Recap: Pop The Bottles The Yankees Are Going To The Playoffs
With the Yankees only needing to win one game to make the playoffs, the Yankees were finally able to take one from the Red Sox. Behind the resurgence of CC Sabathia who was able to keep the Yankees in the game and get the big W. It was also the Yankees’ 10,000th win, but hey, who is counting, what matters most is that the Yankees will be heading to the playoffs for the first time in three years!
The Yankees were able to start the game off right. Who else but Carlos Beltran would get the Yankees started with a solo home run in the second inning to make the score 1-0. It is amazing to watch somebody who just knows when to turn it on, and take it to another level.
After the home run the Yankees continued to rally. With a runner on first and second with two outs, number nine hitter Brendan Ryan pushed a base hit to left field, and was able to bring in the second run of the game for the Yankees, to make the score 2-0.
Even though CC Sabathia had the early 2-0 lead he would have to work to get his outs all game. CC went five innings and did not have one conventional 1-2-3 inning. Even with pitching in and out of jams, Sabathia only gave up one run in the fifth. Mookie Betts had another RBI single and continued to have an amazing series against the Yankees. CC Sabathia finished after five innings with the 2-1 lead, and handing it over to the bullpen to finish the job.
Adam Warren came in to relive CC Sabathia and stepped up in a big way. He pitched three scoreless innings, and held the Red Sox scoreless. In the bottom of the seventh another youngster, Greg Bird, stepped up for the Yankees. Bird was able to hit a solo home run, and give the Yankees a little cushion to make the score 3-1. Then, rookie second basemen, Rob Refsnyder, hit another solo home run to give the Yankees a 4-1 lead.
Dellin Betances came into the ninth and closed out the ball game!
We will see you on Tuesday night in the Bronx for a winner take all Wild Card game! First pitched is scheduled for 8:08 pm!
