New York Yankees News: Nathan Eovaldi Ruled out for Post-Season?

Perhaps the Yankees won’t get Nathan Eovaldi back for the post-season after all.

According to Brendan Kuty of NJ.com, the 25-year old right hander still feels some general soreness in his injured right elbow, which eventually shut Eovaldi down for the remainder of the regular season when it became inflamed two weeks ago.

The initial plan was to have Eovaldi start throwing this week in hopes of getting him back for October baseball, but that may no longer be the case. According to Kuty, the Yankees have decided to push Eovaldi rehab assignment back another week.

"“I think he’ll see Ahmad later this week but we’ll see where we’re at,” Cashman told Kuty. “But clearly because of where we’re at, this time of season, you know, you’re going to run out of time. The only thing we’re interested in right now is making sure he’s right before we take that next step. If he’s not right, we won’t take that next step.”"

Nathan Eovaldi was a remarkable 14-3 with a 4.20 ERA and was certainly in line to make the Yankees starting playoff rotation before being placed on the DL. It’s important to note that Eovaldi underwent Tommy John surgery as a high school pitcher years before he made it to the MLB, meaning that if he’s eventually diagnosed with a serious injury that requires a second tommy john surgery, the odds of him returning to the major leagues are slim-to-none.

A healthy Eovaldi would have been a nice addition for the Yankees in playoffs, even if it meant coming out of bullpen.

With Adam Warren now a member of the starting rotation and Chasen Shreve serving up home run after home run, the Yankees bullpen that was once a tremendous asset now remains in limbo.
