Prior to last night’s game down in Tampa, Alex Rodriguez underwent an MRI that revealed a bone bruise on his left knee. The injury was suffered during his head first slide into home plate during the series finale against the Toronto Blue Jays last Sunday in the Bronx.
The news was first reported Yankees Beat Reporter George King III;

The interesting thing about the whole scenario is that Mark Teixeira was originally diagnosed with a similar bone bruise before it was determined that he suffered a bone fracture that would require season ending surgery.
Fortunately for the New York Yankees, it looks as if Alex Rodriguez won’t undergo the same fate. Despite the pre-game report, their 40-year old DH still batted third in the lineup and he even managed to crush his team-leading 32nd home run of the year off Jake Odorizzi during last nights ball game. On a quick side note, that home run marked number 686 and hit number 3,061 of A-Rod’s career, moving him past Hall of Famer Craig Biggio for 21st on the all-time hits list.
Also, following tonight’s rubber match against the Rays, A-Rod will get four days rest following the teams off day on Thursday and their game set across town in Citi Field against the Mets with no DH.
Yes, there’s a chance we see Alex in Queen’s in pinch-hit scenarios late in ball games, but his left-knee will get a ton of rest before the Yankees head up to Toronto for another vital three game series when he’s required to take regular at-bat’s again.
