New York Yankees News: Ben Gamel Named Triple-A Rookie of the Year

Ladies and gentleman, Mr. Ben Gamel of the Scranton/ Wilkes-Barre RaildRiders has just been named the 2015 International League Rookie of the Year!

In doing so, Gamel became the first player in the Yankees farm system to win this award since Austin Jackson in 2009.

Thanks to an insane slash line of .304/.359/.476 that featured 146 hits (49 of which went for extra bases), 10 home runs, 61 RBI and 79 runs scored, Gamel finished in the top three in the entire International League in most offensive categories en route to his rookie of the year nominee.

The 23-year old out of Bishop Kennedy High School in Jacksonville, Florida racked up a total of 229 total bases thanks to 14 tripes and 25 doubles. He was the best hitter on the entire RailRiders roster by far, leading in every category except doubles (Refsnyder, 28) and home runs (Roller, 14).

The former 10th-round draft pick also became just one of 12 players named to the 2015 International League Postseason All-Star Team, which is another incredible honor in and of itself.

Already this impressive at 23-years old, it’ll be interesting to see what the future holds for Ben Gamel. Might he actually be the player to replace Jacoby Ellsbury? I guess time will tell, but for now this, is an incredible testament to the replenished New York Yankees farm system.
