New York Yankees News: Alex Rodriguez To Face $100 MM Lawsuit

Well folks, perhaps there is more than just fatigue and extending his swing that’s causing Alex Rodriguez to bat.138 (11-80) with just two home runs this month.

According to Christian Red of the New York Daily News, Constantine Scurtis, the younger brother of Alex’s ex-wife filed a hefty $100 million civil lawsuit against A-Rod in Miami.

The lawsuit alleges that A-Rod used Newport Property Ventures Ltd., a real-estate business created by both Alex and Constantine, to commit both insurance and mortgage fraud after Category 4 Hurricane Ike rocked Texas in September 2008. Constantine Scurtis also claimed that A-Rod forced Scurtis out of the company that very same year, and that a very short time ago, Alex filed a false tax return that placed a $388,000 lean from the IRS on Scrutis’ mansion in Miami that upset his wife and children late in the evening.

On Wednesday, Scurtis filed a 12-count amended complaint in the Circuit Court in Miami, accusing his ex-brother-in-law of contract breach, fiduciary duty breach, civil conspiracy, unjust enrichment, tortious interference and of course, fraud.

Interestingly enough, this ongoing story is starting to surface down in Miami smack in the middle of A-Rod’s worst slump this season.

Conveniently, Scurtis had this to say;

"“This is the last thing in the world I want to do,” Scurtis told the Daily News. “I have a very positive career going on right now. It’s not good to be involved in litigation in the business I’m in. I’m not trying to draw attention to myself. But what’s right is right.”"

John C. Lukacs Sr., Alex Rodriguez’s often busy attorney, told the New York Daily News late on Wednesday evening that he didn’t get a chance to review the lawsuit just yet, adding that it was filed late in the evening in order to ‘exploit the media to [Scurtis’] advantage.’

He also went on to say that he would not comment, “except to say that we viewed Mr. Scurtis’ allegations in the original complaint as frivolous, moved to strike that complaint as sham and intend to respond to his amended complaint accordingly.”

Alex Rodriguez just cannot stay out of trouble.
