From a relationship that was up in the air, to a rekindled bond, the New York Yankees and Alex Rodriguez couldn’t be closer than they are now. Alex has turned up the heat this year to his season, reaching milestones in every major hitting category.
To reward Alex further, the Yankees have planned a day to honor him next month with his own ceremony. It will be September 13th, before a 1:05 p.m. game against the Toronto Blue Jays. This is technically for his 3,000th hit, but you could choose multiple things to celebrate on this A-Rod filled day. From the home run bonus mess, to hitting milestones, Alex just had to add to the climactic season with hitting a bomb in the Bronx for the big 3k.
He has said the following on his newly announced ceremony next month.
"“I never thought a year ago that I’d be getting any ceremony. There was a thought that maybe I wasn’t going to play baseball ever again, so to be celebrated at home, I’m honored.”"
Being honored as he should be, whether you like him or dislike him as a Yankees fan or baseball fan in general, Alex has handled this season better than anyone else could. His mind has been on baseball and baseball alone, and like any city, if you’re winning all will be forgiven.
Joe Girardi followed up with a little relationship advice in addition to Alex’s statement. “All relationships are going to have rocky moments and you like to see things get righted and repaired,” he said.
Righted and repaired is spot-on, having an in-house feud with Alex is not something the Yankees needed this season, and the fixed relationship has been key to fueling the Yanks to where they are now.
Brian Cashman has urged fans to be at their seats by 12:30 sharp so they can celebrate A-Rod before they take on the Jays in another pivotal division match-up.
