New York Yankees Editorial: Ivan Nova Ignored Trade Rumors

Ivan Nova, who is now in his sixth season with the New York Yankees, avoids watching television or reading news related to the Yankees, as he knows that rumors can affect players in a negative manner.  Nova once again took that method when approaching the 2015 trade deadline, as he stated that he hadn’t heard of reports that the team was considering trading him:

"I didn’t know anything about that.  I don’t watch that stuff, I don’t read that stuff.  I just focus on helping my team and being ready for my team."

Nova, who the team reportedly considered trading to the Cincinnati Reds for Johnny Cueto, added that he learned his lesson from the last time he checked the rumor mill, recalling hearing about rumors involving the team considering trading him and Zach McAllister for Dan Haren back in 2010.  That deal never went through and Nova made his debut later in 2010.  McAllister was later dealt for Austin Kearns.

In 2015?  Nova was once again retained and will remain a Yankee after a quiet trade deadline in the Bronx.  The only move that the Yankees made?  They traded for utility man Dustin Ackley, sending Ramon Flores and Jose Ramirez to the Seattle Mariners.  Even after a quiet deadline, the Yankees enter play Monday with a six-game division lead.
