New York Yankees Rumors: Yankees Tried To Trade For Dustin Ackley

facebooktwitterreddit

While Cole Hamels is close to going to the Rangers, David Price has entered the market and the crosstown Mets  adding Carlos Gomez  (and then the deal falling through), the New York Yankees have been quiet. They may be looking to try and upgrade at second. Martin Prado? No. Bringing up Rob Refsnyder or Jose Pirela? Haha good try. Here’s your answer

Ackley is hitting .215 with a .635 OPS. In comparison, Drew is hitting .187 with a .638 OPS. I can’t see that as much of an upgrade especially with Drew being a better defender.

Ramon Flores in AAA is hitting .281 with a .798 OPS. Flores came up for a short time to the big league club and showed some flashes of some ability both offensively and defensively. Ben Gamel is hitting .287 with a .782 OPS in AAA.

I’ve never seen Gamel play so I’m not going to say that he’s the second coming or anything. I have seen Flores and I have seen Ackley and I can’t understand what the Yankees see in Ackley.

Yes he’s 27 and he could very well just need a change of scenery to unlock his potential. He was the second pick in the draft. However, I just don’t see how it quite makes sense.

This deadline has been nutty, now let’s see if the Yankees add to the noise.
