New York Yankees Game Recap: Yankees Pound Texas In Blowout
Bugs Bunny turned 75 years old a couple of days ago and this game reminded me of a specific part of Bugs’ baseball cartoon.
The New York Yankees were able to fight back after Chris Capuano put them behind a five run eight ball and come back and win 21-5.
Capuano’s start was UGLY. It certainly makes you wonder how much longer they are going to stick with him on the roster. Capuano walked two of the first four hitters. Elvis Andrus singled to drive in a run. Then another walk. A single by Ryan Rua and Shin-Soo Choo double added to the lead. Two more walks and Capuano was done.
Enter Diego Moreno who got out of the inning and didn’t give up another hit throughout 5.1 innings of shutout baseball. Moreno was called up as the in case of emergency option with Capuano starting and Joe Girardi broke that glass and it worked.
The Yankees got to work with a 11 run second inning, their highest run scoring inning since 2010. Chris Young led off with a double and scored on Chase Headley‘s single. John Ryan Murphy singled and Didi Gregorius was hit to load the bases.
In the biggest play of the game, Brendan Ryan hit a ground ball to second. Rougned Odor went to cover second instead of the playing the ground ball and it turned into a two run double. Jacoby Ellsbury and Brett Gardner each followed with run scoring singles to tie the game. Alex Rodriguez‘s double gave the Yankees a 6-5 lead.
After a strikeout and a walk, Headley drove in another run with a single. Gregorious unloaded a three run triple and Ryan had his second double and that would be it.
Young added a grand slam in the third to make it 15-5. Young was involved again next inning when Elvis Andrus’ misplay on his ball allowed another run.
Young drove in two more with a double in the sixth and scored on Murphy’s single to make it 19-5.
Adam Rosales pitched the ninth for the Rangers. In case you don’t know who he is, he is a backup infielder for Texas. Gardner hit a two run bomb after Ellsbury reached on catchers interference for the second time in the game and by two different catchers.
The 21 runs is the most by any team this season.
Masahiro Tanaka would like some of that run support tomorrow as he takes on Colby Lewis at 8:05 tomorrow.
