In the midst of all the news surrounding the MLB All-Star Game, Rob Refsnyder being promoted and demoted in a matter of days and all the trade rumors surrounding the New York Yankees, one thing that seemed to go unnoticed is Yankees prospect Kyle Roller being named the International League All-Star Player of the Game last Wednesday!

In the top half of the ninth inning, the International League rallied for three runs in a come-from-behind 4-3 victory over the Pacific Coast League. The rally began with Syracuse Chiefs Jason Martinson drawing a leadoff walk. Then, Columbus Clippers  Tyler Holt was hit by a pitch. Lehigh Valley’s Tyler Henson followed both walks up with a single to load the bases. Two batters later, with the bases juiced and two outs, Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders and Yankees first-base prospect Kyle Roller ripped a single back up the middle to knot the All-Star Game up at 3 runs a piece. Roller’s teams went on to score the winning run just one batter later.

"“These guys in front of me did a great job,” Kyle Roller told Lee Warren of MiLB.com. “They did whatever they could to get on base and kind of set the stage for me. I was happy to be in that situation to try to help my team to victory.”"

Roller, went 2-for-2 with a walk and two RBIs, and was later named the International League All-Star Plater of the Game! He made the 2015 All-Star team after slashing .230/.332/.391 with 13 home runs and 51 RBI in the first half of the RailRiders season.

It’s also important to note that former Yankees prospect Peter O’Brien, who was traded to acquire half of a season out of Martin Prado just one year ago,  gave the Pacific League their first lead of the game when he belted a two-run homer to left field. He was also named the Pacific League All-Star Player of the Game!

Go figure.
