New York Yankees Editorial: CC Still Has More To Give

Though New York Yankees veteran pitcher CC Sabathia didn’t have an ideal first half to the season, there’s still a lot to look forward to from him as they head into the final months of the season. Whether it be on the field or not, CC could be a factor in the Yankees maintaining their division lead over the AL East and potentially making a run in the playoffs.

The Yankees lead the AL East as the final week of July goes by, and over the next month or so is when playoff bound teams want to start heating up to give themselves a good position for the final month of the season. No one wants to play catch up during the month of September and be too burnt out once October comes around. Who knows that better on the Yankees 2015 roster (pitching wise) other than CC? Just as Andy Pettitte or Mariano Rivera were there for him in 2009, CC is now in their position, and it shouldn’t be undermined as the Yankees have proven they can be contenders in the American League.

With a relatively young rotation, CC is the best example for those pitchers to look up to when it comes to pressured experience. Aside from  Ivan Novano other pitcher in the Yankees rotation has playoff experience. Masahiro Tanaka, though not a rookie, is still yet to pitch in the MLB Playoffs. Nathan Eovaldi has been on losing teams for most of his career and has a good chance of pitching in October this year for the first time on a team that expects nothing but championships anytime they reach the playoffs. Michael Pineda,  the ace of this current staff might just pitch in October for the first time as well.

CC who is coming off maybe his best outing this season (close in comparison against Detroit) showed he still has some kick in him, and he can still pitch with the young guys moving forward. With him coming off two solid starts, could this change the Yankees mentality as they near the trade deadline? No one is expecting CC to pitch like it’s 2009, but in the last month he’s looked like at least a solid number three starter at times. His next start could be the most important of the season in terms of trying to figure out if he really is maintaining his role of a number three pitcher or not.

If CC can keep stringing solid outings together, the Yankees should start firing on all cylinders and head to the promised land; Bronx Baseball in October.
