New York Yankees News: Carlos Beltran To Return after All-Star Break

New York Yankees veteran right fielder Carlos Beltran reported today that he hopes to return from the 15-day disabled list immediately after the All-Star Break.

The 38-year old veteran was placed on the DL on July 3rd with a left oblique strain and hasn’t played since July 1st.

Beltran told Brendan Kuty of NJ.com, that he hasn’t felt pain in his oblique in ‘days’, which is interesting considering the fact that he initially told team doctors that he felt as if he didn’t need to be placed on the disabled list at all.

"“They didn’t want to take any chances of throwing me out there and making it any worse,” he told Kuty. “So, I mean, I wasn’t happy, but at the end of the day, it is what it is.”"

However, and you can call me crazy all you want, but I truly believe the Yankees are purposely keeping Beltran off the DL on purpose to avoid injury risk in hopes of potentially dealing Beltran to another team in the American League during the July 31st trade deadline.

One potential trade destination might be the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, who are in desperate need of another bat and do indeed have an opening at DH, where Beltran truly belongs. They cleared some salary earlier in the year by shipping Josh Hamilton back to Texas, so maybe if the Yankees take on some of Beltran’s $15 million through 2016, the Halo’s might jump at the offer.

Is this possible? I guess time will tell.

In the meantime, the Yankees have been using a platoon of Chris Young and Garrett Jones to fill the void left behind by Beltran.

Prior to being placed on the DL, Beltran was slashing .260/.309/.430 with 7 HR and 30 RBI.
