New York Yankees News: Jacoby Ellsbury Is Back Wednesday

The Yankees offense is about to get a jolt of energy at the top of the of the order as well as in the outfield. Jacoby Ellsbury won’t be back tomorrow, but he will be back in time for Wednesday’s game against the Oakland Athletics the Yankees announced.

With Carlos Beltran also on the DL, this can help the Yankees go with a platoon of Chris Young and Garrett Jones in right until Beltran is back. (or Aaron Judge gets promoted but SHHH we can’t talk about that)

Ellsbury was off to a great start this season, hitting .324/.412/.372 with a homer, six RBI and 14 stolen bases until injuring his kneed May 19 against Washington and hadn’t been back since.

Ellsbury was still the Yankees leading All-Star vote getter with over 3 million votes.

Ellsbury went 2-13 in his rehab assignment with Single-A Tampa. Here’s what Brian Cashman had to say on Ellsbury per the NY Post.

"“We scratched him because the fields were wet,’’ the GM said of the playing surface Monday in Tampa, where Ellsbury was on a rehab assignment with the Single-A club. “He did some simulated stuff [Monday] and will do it again Tuesday and be activated Wednesday.’’"

Ellsbury may be the Yankees best player and with Andrew Miller coming back this week too, the Yankees will start to look whole again, just in time for the All-Star break.
