New York Yankees Game Recap: Eovaldi Solid As Yankees Salvage A Game Vs Angels

Maybe Nathan Eovaldi is turning a bit of a corner. He’s still throwing too many pitches and not going deep in games, but he’s not getting obliterated like he did against the Marlins. Eovaldi went 5.1 shutout innings  and with the bullpen’s help, it was enough to get the New York Yankees a 3-1 win to avoid a sweep against the Angels.

The Yankees got the scoring started in the third off Matt Shoemaker. Didi Gregorius led off with a single and Stephen Drew bunted him over to second. Two batters later, Chase Headley, who has enjoyed being in that two hole, drove home Didi with a single.

The game remained that way until the sixth when Garrett Jones, who is subbing for an ailing Carlos Beltran, hit his fifth homer of the season.

The Yankees had a chance to extend the lead in the seventh with Drew’s leadoff double, but failed to bring him home.

The Yanks would extend the lead in the eighth off the Halos bullpen. Brian McCann led off with a single. Jones walked and Chris Young followed with a single of his own to load the bases. Gregorius drove home McCann with a single, but Drew and Brett Gardner would both be retired to end the threat.

The Angels got their lone run in the eighth when Mike Trout hit his 21st homer of the season.

Dellin Betances came on in the ninth and gave up two walks, but struck out CJ Cron to end the game.

The Yankees begin a big weekend series vs the Rays. Chris Archer will face the Yanks. As of this post the starter for the Yankees is TBA.
