Yanks Go Yard Radio Show Rewind: Yankees-Angels Preview (6/29-7/1)
By Ricky Keeler

On last night’s episode of the Yanks Go Yard Radio Show, brought to you by KNODA.com, I started off the episode by talking about the New York Yankees (41-35) recent series against the Houston Astros. While a split may not have been the ideal result, New York’s offense was shut down in the two losses by the top two pitchers in the Houston rotation, Dallas Keuchel and Colin McHugh.
In the two wins, one of the players that stood out was Chris Young. The Yankees’ outfielder had two home runs, including the game winning three run homer in the 3-2 win on Friday. Yesterday, the Yankees announced some good news as Jacoby Ellsbury, who is recovering from a right knee injury, will be rehabbing in Tampa this week and could be back with the big league club when the Yankees return home on Friday.

The Yankees conclude their seven game road trip with a three game series against the Los Angeles Angels (39-37) that begins tonight. From June 5-June 7, the Yankees swept the Angels at Yankee Stadium, outscoring the Halos 22-11 in the three games. However, Mike Scioscia’s club comes in to this series as winners of their last two series against Houston and Seattle respectively.
When you talk about the Angels, the main storyline is Albert Pujols. Pujols (.265, 23 HR, 47 RBI’s) is hitting .308 this month with 12 home runs and 24 RBI’s. If he hits one more home run in the next two games, he will tie a team record for the most home runs in a single month. Pujols and Mike Trout (.300, 19 HR, 42 RBI’s) have combined for 19 of the 26 home runs that the team has hit this month.
As far as the starting rotation goes, Jered Weaver is currently on the disabled list with a hip injury. He has a rough season, going 4-8 with a 4.75 ERA in 15 starts. With Weaver on the DL, that allows the team to put Andrew Heaney into the rotation. The 24-year-old left-hander, who was acquired in the Howie Kendrick deal this winter, will start against the Yankees tomorrow night (vs. Ivan Nova).
To get more information on the Angels, I spoke with David Rice, the co-editor of Halo Hangout to talk about his takeaways from the last Angels-Yankees series and whether or not Mike Scioscia could lose his job if the Angels miss the playoffs this season:
