New York Yankees Editorial: Jacoby Ellsbury Injury Update

New York Yankees outfielder Jacoby Ellsbury is getting closer to returning to action as he continues to take part in pre-game workouts. Ells’ has been out since May 19th, and while his departure in return gave the Yankees good looks at some of their young outfield prospects, they are also looking to have him back as soon as possible.

Ellsbury was cruising to an All-Star year, averaging .324, along with a .412 OBP, and 14 stolen bases. This goes without saying, but he was also the team’s most important player. He could start his rehab assignment any day now, with what is hopefully a quick and clean process. It’d be a big positive if he can return for a handful of games before the All-Star break, so once it ends all is back to normal to start the second half of the season.

If all goes as planned, when the Yanks’ go to Anaheim to take on the Angels, Ellsbury will instead go to Tampa to start the rehab assignment, and go back up to the Bronx, just in time for their series vs the Rays, which will essentially be a battle for first place in the A.L. East.

The team could use Ellsbury back as soon as possible, it’s always good to end the first half of the season confidently, and with a vital series against the Rays, it’s a must win. Before the All-Star break, the Yankees also take on the Oakland Athletics in the Bronx, and then go to Boston to take on the Red Sox.
