New York Yankees Editorial: 5 Reason Why Bryce Harper will be a New York Yankee

5. Who Can Pay Bryce Harper?
Bryce Harper will have the biggest contract ever. He will still be in his mid 20’s when his current deal is up. Some experts believe it could be around 40 million a year, and when thinking about that it is not that crazy. Clayton Kershaw is getting 30 million a year to be the ace of the Dodgers. Giancarlo Stanton just got a deal worth 325 million over a 13-year span.
When Harper is a free agent he will be looking for more than 30 million that Kershaw received. Harper will look to have a bigger contract to Stanton’s monster contract. What team can really afford that amount of salary with one player? I believe only three teams could; The Yankees, the Red Sox, and the Dodgers.
The Red Sox will still have all these bad contracts, and adding 40 million does not seem that realistic. The Dodgers will have to pay their young players, like Yasiel Puig and Joc Pederson, plus still having Kershaw’s major salary. That just leaves the Yankees signing Bryce Harper to a mega deal that Harper will deserve in 2019.
