New York Yankees Trade Rumors: Talking With Reds About Pitching?

With the draft over, it’s time for trade rumor season. With the New York Yankees right in the thick of the division race, they are going to be heavily involved in all sorts of rumors. If you saw the Yankees series vs Baltimore, the starting pitching  was not good. Yes Ivan Nova may be back as soon as this week, but that may not be the cure for the Yankees ailments.

Could Johnny Cueto or Mike Leake be the solution? It appears the Yanks have some interest in the free agents to be.

The 29-year old is 4-4 with a 2.85 ERA in 12 starts. Cueto was scratched a few weeks ago with a tender elbow, but there was no structural damage on it.

Leake so far this season is 3-4 with a 4.35 ERA.

You’d have to think the Reds would want Aaron Judge or Luis Severino, but I doubt the Yankees would want to go there. According to the NY Post’s George King III, the Reds have their eyes on some other prospects.

"However, the Reds have scouted the Yankees’ system and players such as outfielders Ramon Flores and Mason Williams and pitcher Bryan Mitchell might be attractive as part of a package"

If a package of Flores and Mitchell gets something done for Cueto, the Yankees are going to have think very long and hard about pulling the trigger. Cueto with Masahiro Tanaka and Michael Pineda as the top part of the rotation with a healthy Andrew Miller and Dellin Betances at the back of the bullpen would be an outstanding and lethal force in a short series.

I expect the Yankees to make some kind of move for pitching. We’ll see if it is either right-hander.
