On Sunday night’s episode of the Yanks Go Yard Radio Show, brought to you by KNODA.com, I started the episode by talking about the New York Yankees (32-25) sweeping their three game series against the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim.
In all three games, the Yankees put up six runs or more, scoring a grand total of 22 runs. They are now 6-0 in the month of June, have scored 37 runs (most in the American League, and have hit 11 home runs (the most in baseball). Tonight, the Yankees will begin a two-game series against the Washington Nationals (30-27), a team that beat them in both game at Nats Park last month. However, this is not the same team that the Yankees saw last month.

Even though Anthony Rendon is back in the lineup for the Nats at third base, their offense has not been consistent in the month of June. They have lost three straight series after winning a franchise record nine consecutive series. They are 2-5 in June and have scored 18 runs, which is the lowest in the National League.
That being said, the Nats still have Bryce Harper, who will be playing at Yankee Stadium for the first time in his young career. The Nats’ right fielder is hitting .326 with 19 home runs and 46 RBI’s. Last month, Harper and Nationals’ ace Max Scherzer (tonight’s starting pitcher) were named player and pitcher of the month in the National League.
Even with Rendon back, the Nationals still have their fair share of injuries. Stephen Strasburg and Doug Fister are not in the rotation, which has made the team’s rotation not as great as people thought it would be when the season began. Then, there is the bullpen. Other than closer Drew Storen (18 saves), the bullpen has not been consistent (3.56 ERA).
To talk more about the Nationals as they play at Yankee Stadium for the first time since 2012, I spoke with Brandon Conner, one the writers at District On Deck to get his take on Rendon and the struggles of Nationals’ first baseman Ryan Zimmerman (.213 batting average).
