New York Yankees Breaking News: Sergio Santos Signs With New York Yankees

Prior to day two of the MLB draft, the New York Yankees have signed relief pitcher Sergio Santos to a minor-league deal. The news was first reported by Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports via Twitter.

Santos came into the league six years ago with the Chicago White Sox, but being drafted by the Arizona Diamondbacks in the 2002 amateur draft as the 27th overall pick. Throughout his career, he has shown that he could not provide a consistent effort. For example, during the 2013 season with the Toronto Blue Jays, Santos posted an immaculate 1.75 earned run average (ERA) in 25.2 innings, but during the 2014 season, he posted a dreaded 8.57 ERA in 21.0 innings.

Coming into the 2015 season with the Los Angeles Dodgers, Santos looked to change his downward spiral into an upward trend. Unfortunately, that would not be the case. During his short tenure with the Dodgers, Santos posted a 4.73 ERA in 12 games, proving to be mostly ineffective.

The Yankees decision to sign Santos would prove to be a low risk, as he will be instated with the Double-A team in Trenton. With Santos clearing waivers from the Dodgers, he was a free agent for a brief four days.

Santos, being 31-years-old, must know that this could be one of the last few times he can purely prove himself. The signing looks as if it is an audition, thus letting Santos show what he is truly capable of. If the signing doesn’t pan out, the Yankees can just part ways with Santos.

As stated earlier, the signing is nothing to fear Yankees’ fans. Although Santos has proved to be on the downward end of his career, the signing is an opportunity for Santos to provide the Yankees with any additional confidence for their bullpen.
