The end of the second month of the season showed some big-time promotions along with players coming back from injuries and rehabbing in the minors. Let’s get to it.
AAA- Scranton Wilkes Barre
Hitter Of The Week- OF Ben Gamel
Ramon Flores was called up to the majors over the weekend, and if he hadn’t been on the 40-man roster and Gamel was, Gamel may have been the guy. Gamel continues to lead the International League in all sorts of offensive categories. Gamel had three mutli-hit games this week and added a stolen base to boot.
Honorable Mention- Cole Figueroa
When you drive in five runs in game, you’re going on this list. In Wednesday 9-6 win over Pawtucket, Figueroa went 5-5 with five RBI including two important insurance runs in the late innings to help preserve the victory.
Pitcher Of The Week- Bryan Mitchell
Everyone talks about when Luis Severino will come up to the majors, but maybe Mitchell should get the first shot if the Yankees need a starter. Mitchell shut down Norfolk on Friday night, with eight shutout innings allowing just two hits, walking one and striking out four.
Honorable Mention- Jaron Long
Profiled last week, Long continues to pitch well in AAA with his best start yet. Last Monday, Long went 7.2 shutout innings, giving up just three hits while walking three and striking out four.

AA- Trenton Thunder
Hitter Of The Week- Ali Castillo
Maybe he’ll be the guy to replace Derek Jeter? (Sorry Didi) Castillo has done nothing but hit since coming off of the DL. This week, Castillo had at least a hit in every game except one, drove in five and stole a couple of bases
Honorable Mention- Aaron Judge
Maybe Judge will be the next player promoted to AAA. Judge got a hit in every game this week, with a homer, and eight RBI. Judge is just one RBI off the team lead, but is in the top 10 in the league in RBI, homers and OPS.
Pitcher Of The Week- Luis Severino
Severino got promoted to AAA this week, making his debut yesterday. In his final start, Severino struck out nine over five innings while giving up three hits and two runs.
Honorable Mention- Eric Ruth
Ruth moved to 3-0 in six starts with another solid outing this week. Ruth went seven innings, giving up a run, four hits, walked one and struck out six. It’s the second time in his past three starts he’s struck out six.

A- Charleston River Dogs
Hitter Of The Week- Jorge Mateo
Speaking of people who may replace Jeter, the 19 year old may be that guy. Mateo had two three hit games this week, including a homer. He also has 36 stolen bases in 44 games.
Honorable Mention- Dustin Fowler
Fowler continues to add to the Yankees collection of outfield depth. Fowler had three multi-hit games and two RBI. Charleston struggled this week and only won once, but Fowler continues to be a bright spot.
Pitcher Of The Week- Andre Del Bosque
Del Bosque picked up Charleston’s only win this week. In two starts, he went 10 innings, giving up eight hits, three runs walking three and striking out eight. He’s tied for second on the team in wins with three.
Honorable Mention- Luis Cedeno
Cedeno pitched well enough to win on Wednesday but Charleston couldn’t get him the run support needed. He went 5.1 innings giving up three hits and two runs. He’s tied with Del Bosque with three wins.

A- Tampa Yankees
Hitter Of The Week- Tyler Wade
Wade was a bright spot in a quiet offensive week for Tampa. Wade scored twice, had five hits, walked once and drove in a run. Wade’s .320 average is fifth in the Florida State League
Honorable Mention- Michael O’Neill
O’Neill hit a walk-off homer in the 12th in game one of the team’s doubleheader on Thursday. O’Neill has struggled to get started in his 22 games with Tampa, but maybe this can be the start of something for the former third round pick
Pitcher Of The Week- Rookie Davis
Davis set a season high with 10 strikeouts on Saturday, going six shutout innings and gave up only two hits. He’s now fifth in Florida State League with 52 strikeouts
Honorable Mention- Gabriel Encinas
Encinas picked up one of the wins for Tampa in Thursday’s doubleheader sweep. Encinas went five shutout innings, striking out seven, while only giving up two hits and a walk. Encinas has struck out 37 in 28.2 innings while giving up only 14 hits in 10 games.
