Yankees News: Urban Meyer To Throw Out Honorary First Pitch Friday For

With the New York Yankees back in town, a special guest was invited to throw out the first pitch. Urban Meyer, coach of the Ohio State Buckeyes football team was given the honor of throwing out the first pitch before the Yankees take on the Orioles in the second game of their series. Meyer lead the Buckeyes to a National Championship in the first College Football Playoffs. Urban Meyer will be presented with an autographed base from the Yankees, and will be honored as part of an Ohio State celebration day at Yankees Stadium.

An interesting fact some people might not know is that Urban Meyer was a shortstop back in his day. He was drafted by the Atlanta Braves in 1982, and played in their Minor League system for two years. With that being said, the strike zone will be smaller for him than it would be for others who throw out first pitches. Someone to look at as an example for Meyer will be James Franklin, coach of the Penn State Nittany Lions. He threw out the first pitch at Yankees stadium on April 28th against the Rays. Franklin’s pitch came in a low strike to Brian McCann, and was one of the best first pitches you’ll see. Meyer certainly might have to one-up his Big 10 rival coach on Friday night, and only time will tell.
