It was all going so well. It was old fashioned pitchers duel and the Yankees were ahead. Then CC Sabathia just couldn’t find his way out of the seventh inning and the Yankees fell to the Detroit Tigers 2-1 in the first of four in the Motor City.
The Yankees lone run off Alfredo Simon was in the top of the second when Mark Teixeira hit his fourth homer of the season by flipping an outside pitch over the right field fence.Â

The Yankees defense was supposed to lead the way for the team all season long and first the first time it did that. Brett Gardner and Jacoby Ellsbury helped CC out in the outfield with some great plays. Â Stephen Drew made some great plays in the infield.
The seventh inning came, and the Tigers were able to get on the board. Rajai Davis led off with a single and went to second on Ian Kinsler‘s flyout. Miguel Cabrera grounded out.
Victor Martinez came up and even though he was 0-2 and even though he was the go-ahead run, the Yankees elected to walk him intentionally. This move proved costly.
JD Martinez singled in Davis on a grounder of Didi Gregorious’ glove to tie the game. Yoenis Cespedes followed with a single of his own that scored Victor, but JD would get thrown out going too far off the base at second.
The Yankees had first and third with one out in the eighth, but Ellsbury would ground into a double play that would end the inning. They would go down 1-2-3 in the ninth.
Nathan Eovaldi will face Kyle Lobstein at 7:08 tomorrow evening.
