Yankees Editorial: Time For Changes

They say you can’t win a pennant in April, but you can certainly lose one. The way the New York Yankees have started the season they are well on their way to having this season get out of their grasp real quickly. The only thing you have been able to bank on is the bullpen. It’s been as good as advertised. Everything else has totally stunk.

Is it four games, however, neither Didi Gregorius nor Stephen Drew are looking like all-stars with the bat. The Yankees are not good enough to carry two weak hitting infielders. The only player who’s really hitting so far, ironically, is Alex Rodriguez

Jose Pirela is not ready yet to come back from his concussion. It’s okay. Rob Refsnyder should be up and send Gregorio Petit to AAA. Make Drew the backup to Didi. So they are both left-handed? So what. Neither of them are hitting righties either. Whoever is hitting better plays. That’s it.

Brian Cashman said earlier this week that the Yankees will remain a work in progress for a while. Well you know what? It’s time to get to work.

If I’m Cashman, I start exploring trades for CC Sabathia, Carlos Beltran and Mark Teixeira right now. If I have to eat money like the LA Dodgers did when Andrew Friedman made all of those trades then do it. Maybe they can get a better piece or two if they include some money into the deal.  If a team is close down the stretch, and they need a bat at first, they may take Teixeira.

The Yankees need to explore all options and the sooner they do that the better. This season is starting to spiral right now and if they don’t try and make changes now, this summer may be looking like a long one in the Bronx.
